Wood Pellet Smokers, Unique Fuel Source

Wood pellets have been around for years as an alternative source of energy, and one great place to utilize this energy is in a wood pellet smoker. Wood pellets are a byproduct of sawmills, and basically are compressed sawdust. The sawdust is compacted very densely, and the energy that can be released by burning these pellets make them very effeciant for heating as well as cooking.

Although companies like Brinkmann and Jennair don't make a smoker expressely for use with wood pellets, a wood box can be filled with pellets, put in the fire and in this way used with your Brinkman or Jennair barbecue smoker.

The king of wood pellet smokers is Traeger. Traeger produces a wood pellet smoker with an auger feed system that automatically adds pellets to the fire when needed. Take a look at Traeger BBQ075. This unit has a solid state temperature control that will add pellets to maintain a cooking temerature of smoke, medium or high. An offset fire box ensures that the meat will not burn or dry out. This is smoking at it's easiest.

Traeger also produces commercial wood pellet smokers in 3 sizes. All have the same technology that produces hands free smoking and cooking so you can concentrate on other parts of your catering job. Model # COM190 features two cooking spaces to smoke two different types of items at the same time or use the total space to feed an army. This unit is on wheels for complete portability.

Traeger produces hardwood pellets for use in their wood pellet smoker, or any smoker to add flavor conveniently. The pellets come in hicory, mesquite, alder, maple, cherry, oak, apple and pecan hardwoods. The energy contained within these small pellets equals 8500 btu's per pound!

They are available in conveniant easy to handle 20 pound bags. Good Stuff!

Wood pellets are available in most states and cost about $3.00 per pound if bought in bags. They can be bought by the ton if you wish, but this is more for heating your house with a pellet furnace.
